Appellate tribunal knocks out Tehreek-e-Labbaik leader from NA-81

Maulana Jalali had concealed his tax returns, passport and foreign tours in the nomination papers.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 27th June, 2018) The appellate tribunal has declared Tehreek-e-Labbaik leader Maulana Ashraf Asif Jalali ineligible to contest the general elections.

The Lahore High Court’s Election Appellate Tribunal Judge Justice Shehbaz Rizvi heard the petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) candidate from Gujranwala’s NA-81 Atif Farid.

The petitioner had adopted that Maulana Jalali did not mention his tax returns in the nomination papers. Besides, he did not submit his passport to the returning officer and did not inform about his foreign tours. Therefore, he comes under Article 62, 63 of the Constitution and is not eligible to contest elections.

Announcing his verdict on Atif Farid’s petition, Justice Rizvi nullified returning officer’s decision to accept Jalali’s nomination papers and disqualified him.

The PMLN has fielded former defence minister Khurram Dastagir Khan from Gujranwala’s NA-81.
