AJK general elections scheduled for 27 July 2026

Election Commission of Azad Kashmir has announced that polling for general elections will be held on 27 July 2026. The schedule includes nomination filing from 9–19 June, with the full electoral process to be completed by early July.

MUZZAFARABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June-05th , 2026) The Election Commission of Azad Kashmir has announced the date for general elections in Azad Kashmir.

The Election Commission has issued a notification stating that general elections in Azad Kashmir will be held on 27 July.

According to the issued notification, polling in all Constituencies of the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly will take place on 27 July 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

According to the notification, candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officers from 9 June to 19 June 2026. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on 20 June, and the initial list of eligible candidates will also be issued on the same day.

Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed with the Election Commission from 21 June to 24 June. The appeals will be heard on 26 and 27 June, while decisions will be announced on 28 and 29 June.

According to the schedule, candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers by 30 June. The final list of contesting candidates will be issued on 1 July, while election symbols will be allotted on 2 July. On the same day, the final list of candidates along with their election symbols will also be published.

The Election Commission stated that this notification will come into effect immediately and all arrangements for holding the general elections will be completed according to the schedule.

It is worth noting that yesterday the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution to retain 12 seats for Kashmiri refugees.

The resolution passed by the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly stated that the representation of refugees is a historical and constitutional reality. According to the resolution, resolving electoral complications and making the process acceptable to political parties can be achieved through necessary reforms carried out by the assembly.

The resolution further stated that constitutional reforms are the exclusive authority and mandate of the elected representatives of the people. The matter of reforms should be left to the Legislative Assembly, and consultations should be held with political parties, bar associations, bar councils, civil society, and constitutional experts.
