Rajnath Singh’s refusal stemmed from the absence of any mention of the Pulwama incident in the final communiqué, report Indian media
BEIJING: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 26th, 2025) A key meeting of the Defence Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Beijing, where tensions arose after Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh refused to sign the joint declaration issued at the conclusion of the session.
According to Indian media reports, Singh’s refusal stemmed from the absence of any mention of the Pulwama incident in the final communique.
Additionally, the declaration reportedly included indirect references to India’s alleged role in fostering unrest in Balochistan — a point that sparked concern and disapproval from the Indian delegation.
The high-level defence summit was attended by ministers from member countries including China, Russia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and others. The aim was to discuss regional security and cooperation under the SCO framework.
The sources close to the matter revealed that the Indian delegation raised objections and sought amendments to the draft but other member states declined to make changes.
As a result, Rajnath Singh rejected the declaration and opted not to endorse it.
