Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif shares exciting news for children and wildlife enthusiasts through a post on X
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Oct 18th, 2025) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has shared exciting news for children and wildlife enthusiasts through a post on X (formerly Twitter): giraffes have returned to Lahore after an eight-year absence.
A new pair of giraffes has arrived from South Africa and is now settling into their enclosure at Lahore Safari Park. Their arrival marks a major milestone for the city’s wildlife facilities, particularly after the lone female giraffe at Lahore Zoo had been living alone since the death of her male companion three years ago.
The previously desolate giraffe enclosure at the zoo has now regained its charm, drawing visitors once again. The reintroduction of giraffes also fulfills a long-standing wish of children in Lahore, who haven’t seen the iconic animal in the city’s parks for nearly a decade.
This development comes alongside the lifting of a two-year ban on the import of animals, which was initially imposed due to the deteriorating conditions of zoos and wildlife facilities across the province.
According to officials, the arrival of the giraffes reflects the restoration of international trust in Punjab's wildlife sector. Over the past 18 months, historic reforms and improvements have been implemented to bring wildlife management up to global standards.
With the return of giraffes to both Lahore Zoo and Safari Park, officials say the joy of young visitors and families is expected to multiply.
