LHC  rejects bail pleas of Imran Khan in 8 cases of May 9 riots

A LHC division bench led by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi announces reserved verdict while PTI-affiliated lawyers protest against verdict

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 24th, 2025) In a major legal setback for former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, the Lahore High Court on Monday rejected his bail petitions in eight cases related to the May 9, 2023 riots.

A LHC division bench led by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi announced the reserved verdict.

The court ordered the dismissal of all bail applications filed by Imran Khan in connection with the violent protests that erupted following his arrest last year.

The cases include high-profile incidents such as the attack on Lahore’s Jinnah House, the Shadman and Askari Tower vandalism cases, as well as arson at Zaman Park, Mughalpura, outside Jinnah House, and incidents near Rahat Bakery and Sherpao Bridge.

The courtroom witnessed scenes of protest by PTI-affiliated lawyers shortly after the verdict was announced.

Earlier, all unrelated individuals were cleared from the courtroom for security and procedural reasons. Former Federal minister Fawad Chaudhry was also present during the proceedings.

Imran Khan faces multiple charges stemming from the nationwide unrest on May 9, 2023, when PTI supporters allegedly resorted to violence following his arrest.

The court’s decision adds to Khan’s mounting legal troubles as he remains entangled in numerous cases across the country.
