LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-August 12nd, 2024) The Punjab Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to recognize and honor the contributions of minorities in the province.

This resolution was presented during a special session held to commemorate National Minorities Day.

The resolution was jointly introduced by Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora and minority member Shakeela Javed, receiving full support from all assembly members.

In his address, Ramesh Singh Arora emphasized the significance of the session, noting that the Chief Minister had stressed that minorities are "the crown of our heads," which led to the convening of this special assembly session.

During the session, the assembly also approved resolutions paying tribute to national hero Arshad Nadeem and condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza, including the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. Foreign diplomats were present, highlighting the session's importance.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman also presented the Enforcement and Regulation Punjab Bill 2024. Government member Amjad Ali Javed requested that the bill be presented in both urdu and English, prompting the Speaker to rule that all future bills must be presented in both languages in the assembly.

Opposition leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar presented a resolution condemning the Israeli attacks on Gaza and the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, which was passed without opposition.

Besides it, government member Samiullah Khan introduced a resolution to honor Arshad Nadeem for his international achievements and called for him to be officially recognized as a national hero.
