Finnish Imam's Daughter, Son-in-Law Fought for IS - Reports

The daughter and son-in-law of Finland's Muslim leader Abdul Mannan have gone to Syria to fight alongside Islamists, the Finnish national broadcaster reported Monday

HELSINKI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) The daughter and son-in-law of Finland's Muslim leader Abdul Mannan have gone to Syria to fight alongside Islamists, the Finnish national broadcaster reported Monday.

An investigation by Yle discovered that Taz Rahman, a Bangladeshi-born man, worked as a doctor for the Islamic State terror group (IS, banned in Russia) after joining it with his wife in 2014.

IS documents seen by the broadcaster claim he had been killed in Syria in 2017. The whereabouts of his wife are unknown. They reportedly had children together.

Mannan, the head of the Oulu-based Islamic Society of Northern Finland, denied in an interview with Yle having heard from his daughter or known about the couple's plans to escape to Syria.

"I told police; it is their responsibility to find out. Not only her, there might be some more Finnish nationals," he said.

The outlet also found that Rahman ran a pizzeria in Helsinki and a food kiosk in Oulu, which he co-owned together with the imam. Rahman's partner in pizza business said he owed him money.
