Hamas names Dr. Khalil al-Hayya as its new political bureau leader.
DOHA: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-july-20,2026) Palestinian group Hamas has appointed Khalil al-Hayya as the new head of its political bureau.
According to Arab media reports, Hamas announced that Dr. Khalil al-Hayya has been elected as the new leader of the movement’s political office.
The group said that al-Hayya will assume responsibilities as the successor to Yahya Sinwar.
Born in Gaza in 1960, Khalil al-Hayya has been associated with Hamas since its establishment in 1987.
He gained a more prominent position within the organization following the deaths of key Hamas figures, including Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and military commander Mohammed Deif.
Yahya Sinwar, the former Hamas chief, was killed in October 2024 during a confrontation with Israeli forces, according to Hamas.
