WASHINGTON: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 15th, 2026) The United States military has confirmed carrying out another major military operation against Iran, saying dozens of military targets were struck during an overnight offensive on July 14.
A statement released by the US military made it clear that the operation lasted nearly seven hours and concluded at 10:00 pm Eastern Time. Fighter jets, drones and naval warships were used to carry out precision strikes against multiple Iranian military sites.
The military said the attacks focused on installations and coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz. The targets reportedly included Iranian missile and drone facilities, naval assets, coastal defence systems and other military infrastructure.
The US officials said the objective of the operation was to further degrade Iran’s capability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes.
On the same day, the United States also reimposed a naval blockade on vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas, a move expected to further escalate tensions in the region.
The US military said all of its forces remain on high alert and are fully prepared to carry out any additional orders issued by the President.
The analysts warn that the continued US military operations and heightened naval activity around the Strait of Hormuz could increase risks to global maritime trade, energy supplies and regional stability.
The international community has urged both Washington and Tehran to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.
