SHANGHAI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th November, 2018) An exhibition of photographs by finalists of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, organized by Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency under the sponsorship of the Commission of Russia for UNESCO, opened on Monday at the headquarters of Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG).

The exhibition, which will run until December 5, presents to the Chinese public nearly 70 high-profile works by young journalists from around the world that depict global social issues and stories of the people. The display includes works by Grand Prix winner Alyona Kochetkova, who won with her series of photographs called "How I became sick," which documents her dramatic fight against cancer. There are also photos by Iranian photojournalist Shiva Khademi that tell the story of twins.

The professional jury from Shanghai United Media Group will award its special prize for a work devoted to children. Among the contenders for this award is a photograph by Iraq's Taysir Mahdi called "Wish to live," which shows a young football player with an amputated leg captured on camera in the moment of an attack.

"I was very happy to take part in such an important contest for photojournalists. The awards, including a special SUMG award, inspire me to continue growing professionally. Thank you to the Andrei Stenin contest for supporting young photographers," Mahdi said.

Shanghai has become the fourth venue for the exhibition after the UN headquarters in New York, the Russian capital of Moscow and South Africa's Cape Town. The exhibit will then move to the Chinese city of Weihai, Lebanon's Beirut, Spain's Madrid and other European capitals.
