Russia's Mariinsky Orchestra Led by Gergiev Begins European Tour - Press Release

The Russian Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of world-famous conductor Valery Gergiev begins its six-day summer tour in Europe on Tuesday, the Mariinsky Theatre said in a press release.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) The Russian Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of world-famous conductor Valery Gergiev begins its six-day summer tour in Europe on Tuesday, the Mariinsky Theatre said in a press release.

"Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra are beginning their traditional summer tour, including performances at major European music festivals. Between August 21 and August 26, the musicians will visit cities in Italy, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and Sweden," the press release, published on the St. Petersburg-based theaters website on Monday, read.

The tour begins on Tuesday in Italy as part of the Russian Seasons international project. The Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Gergiev will perform at the Ravello Festival, one of the oldest Italian music festivals.

On Wednesday, the orchestra will perform at the Merano Music Weeks in the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy.

On Thursday, the tour will continue in Lichtenstein, where the orchestra will perform together with renowned Russian pianist Denis Matsuev at the opening of the Vaduz Classic festival. Matsuev will also accompany the orchestra for a concert at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival in Switzerland on Friday. On Saturday, the orchestra will perform together with Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich at the same event.

The tour will finish on Sunday at the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm.

After end of the orchestra's run, Gergiev will stay in Europe for a concert tour with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
