An old video of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt from 1994 has resurfaced, in which he candidly speaks about battling drug addiction, family support, and how fitness helped him recover after years of struggle.
MUMBAI : (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,14, 2025) A decades-old video of Bollywood veteran Sanjay Dutt has gone viral, showing the actor speaking candidly about his struggle with drug addiction and the crucial support he received from his family during his toughest years.
According to Indian media, the video was recorded on the set of his 1994 film Aatish, where Dutt reflected on his life’s difficult phase. He became addicted to drugs between 1980 and 1981, at a time when his mother, legendary actress Nargis, was undergoing treatment for cancer in New York.
Dutt reportedly fell deeper into addiction after his mother’s death in 1981, just three days before the release of his debut film Rocky. Over time, however, he overcame his addiction and refocused on his acting career.
In the resurfaced clip, Dutt says, “I think I saw myself dying. I was tired of hiding, tired of running away from people. I realized I was sick and decided to seek help from my family.”
The Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. star emphasized the importance of physical fitness in his recovery, saying, “Exercise played a big role in helping me quit drugs. There’s nothing like physical activity — it truly helps people heal.”
Co-star Tanuja, who worked with him in Aatish, recalled that the director had warned her not to touch Dutt during a scene because of his fragile health, saying, “If you hit him, he might fall — just act like you’re slapping him.”
Dutt’s sister, Priya Dutt, also shared that it took her brother nearly three and a half years to fully recover. He spent time in rehabilitation centers in Germany and the U.S., with his longest stay being nine months in America, during which the family had no contact with him.
Upon returning to India, Sanjay Dutt restarted his career with a renewed focus and determination to stay away from drugs — marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
