Akshay Kumar moves Bombay High Court against fake AI videos using his image and voice, citing reputational harm and public risk.
MUMBAI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,16, 2025) Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has approached the Bombay High Court against the unauthorized use of his image, voice, and likeness, citing the growing misuse of AI-generated deepfake content in India.
According to Indian media reports, the petition highlights that such fake AI material not only damages the actor’s reputation but also poses serious risks to the public by spreading false and misleading content online.
Senior advocate Birendra Saraf, representing Akshay, told the court that deepfake videos are proliferating so rapidly on social media that tracking and countering them in real time has become nearly impossible. He added that such content can cause significant harm before any clarification is issued, as creators can make the actor appear to say or do anything.
The petition references several specific incidents, including a fake film trailer released in March 2025 depicting Akshay Kumar as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The video amassed over two million views before being taken down.
Another deepfake video showed the actor making controversial remarks about Maharishi Valmiki, sparking protests in several areas. Furthermore, AI tools such as “AI Akshay Kumar V2 Voice” reportedly allow users to generate speeches mimicking the actor’s real voice from any text input.
The case has been filed against social media platforms, websites, and unidentified individuals to prevent the illegal use of Akshay Kumar’s name, likeness, and voice.
It Is worth noting that other Bollywood celebrities, including Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Asha Bhosle, and Suniel Shetty, have also sought similar legal protection against deepfake misuse.
