Opposition continues to protest against federal budget during speech of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in National Assembly
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 10th, 2025) Pakistan’s federal government on Tuesday (today) presented Rs17 trillion budget for Fiscal Year 2025-26. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the budget and delivered the speech while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and other members of the treasury were present there.
The opposition continued to protest.
The session began under the chairmanship of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, starting with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the customary recitation of a Naat (poetry in praise of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ).
After that, all members stood in respect to sing the national anthem.
Finance Minister's Speech
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, after receiving permission from the Speaker, began his speech by thanking the Prime Minister and other political leaders. He stated, "This budget is being presented under extraordinary circumstances when the nation has shown remarkable unity. The unity demonstrated by the nation against India will be remembered as a golden chapter in history."
He said that the current focus is on economic stability and development. "With the same sincerity and resolve, we will stabilize the economy and ensure public welfare. Over the past one and a half years, we have successfully undertaken a journey of growth and economic reforms, stabilizing the economy and strengthening the future."
“We aim to build an economy that directly benefits all segments of society and brings development to every doorstep,” he said.
He mentioned that during this period, progress has been made in every sector, and there is hope that remittances will reach $37 billion by the end of the current fiscal year. The country is on the path to sustainable development.
The finance minister stated that significant progress has been made in the Federal board of Revenue’s (FBR) tax collections over the past one and a half years.
“We were missing more than half of the tax revenue, and it was necessary to bridge this gap. Improving the economy was impossible without transforming the FBR,” said the minister.
He added that a foundational plan has been approved under the supervision of the Prime Minister.
