According to Indian media, the female doctor's body was found on August 9 in the seminar room of Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College in a state where blood was oozing from her eyes, nose, mouth, and private parts.

After the body was found, the hospital administration initially tried to cover up the incident by declaring it a suicide. However, due to pressure from the media and doctors' organizations, the case gained international attention.
