ANKARA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Oct 14th, 2025) A video of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asking Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to quit smoking has gone viral on social media.
The incident took place during the Gaza peace summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, where President Erdogan shook hands with Meloni and urged her to give up smoking. French President Emmanuel Macron was also present at the moment.
In the viral clip, Erdogan is seen telling Meloni, “You look good, but if you quit smoking, you could kill anyone. So, I’ll have to force you to stop smoking.”
Meloni responded with a smile, saying, “I know, but I don’t want to kill anyone.”
After the Italian premier walked away, Macron was seen laughing and telling Erdogan, “That’s impossible.”
According to media reports, Meloni had previously admitted in a series of interviews compiled into a book that she resumed smoking after quitting for 13 years. She also revealed that smoking helped her connect with other world leaders, including Tunisian President Kais Saied.
