Swedish prosecutors will continue investigation in criminal case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange despite a Swedish court's rejection to authorize his arrest in absentia, Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Eva-Marie Persson said Monday
UPPSALA (Sweden) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 03rd June, 2019) Swedish prosecutors will continue investigation in criminal case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange despite a Swedish court's rejection to authorize his arrest in absentia, Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Eva-Marie Persson said Monday. The court of the Swedish city of Uppsala rejected earlier in the day the prosecutors' request to arrest Assange in absentia over rape allegations.
"I fully respect the court's decision. They had to take a position on a difficult assessment issue, which I considered should be examined by a court," Persson said.
"The investigation continues with interviews in Sweden. I will also issue a European Investigation Order in order to interview Julian Assange. No date has been set yet. We will constantly review the state of the investigation," she stressed.
