Due to heavy rains, several rivers in Bengkulu province overflowed on Friday night, flooding nearby areas and causing landslides.

Two of those dead were from Bengkulu city, six of them were from Central Bengkulu district and other two were from Kepahiang district, the Antara news agency specified.

Up to 12,000 people were displaced due to the natural disaster, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the head of Information Data and Public Relation Center of National Agency for Disaster Management, said.

On Saturday, Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah said that all rescuers were involved in evacuation of the citizens and minimizing the flood's repercussions.
