BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th March, 2019) The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management on Thursday announced plans to carry out manufacturing safety inspections in the wake of a deadly explosion at a chemical plant in the country's eastern Jiangsu province.
On Wednesday, the ministry and the National Security Commission held a video conference dedicated to drawing lessons from the tragic incident.
"In the nearest future, a new stage of manufacturing security inspections will begin. It is necessary to make the safe use of hazardous chemical substances the key point of the inspections," the ministry said in a statement.
It added that the ministry planned to launch month-long law enforcement checks in chemical, coal, mining and firefighting areas.
The powerful blast hit the chemical plant in the city of Yancheng last Thursday, with shock waves shattering doors and windows in neighboring residential buildings and leaving an enormous hole on the ground at the site of the explosion.
According to the official data, 78 people were killed and 566 others injured in the incident.
