Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi cancelled their visit to Pakistan following Pulwama attack in Kashmir.
Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 16th February, 2019) Bollywood veterans Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi, who were to come to Pakistan to attend Kaifi Azmi festival, cancelled their visit following Pulwama attack in Kashmir.
The two-day festival to be held on February 23-24 at Karachi Arts Council will pay tribute to Shabana Azmi’s father and celebrated poet Kaifi Azmi.
Several known personalities from Pakistan and across the border were invited to attend the event.
Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi had earlier confirmed that they will be visiting Pakistan for the conference.
However, the suicide attack in Kashmir made them change their decision.
Taking to Twitter, Javed Akhtar announced that he and his wife will not be attending the two-day event.
"Karachi Art Council had invited Shabana and me for a two-day literature conference about Kaifi Azmi and his poetry. We have cancelled that," he wrote.
Replying to the tweet, Pakistani actor Shaan Shahid condemned their decision and said this is the right time to come to Pakistan and show friendship and trust.
He said that Pakistan has nothing to do with the attack and condemned the loss of human lives during the conflict.
“Actually now is the time to come,and show the friendship and trust you have on us ..it is a fact that Pakistan has nothing to do with it , remember hate wins elections ..we condole the deaths of all the humans who died in this tragedy .. from 1947 till 2019,” he wrote.
In another tweet, he requested the Indian writer and lyricist to write a poem on Kashmir.
“Pls write a poem like your father in law did ,on Kashmir the occupied paradise ...zulm rahay or aman bhi ho kya mumkin hay tum hi kaho .. hastee gatee roshan wadee tareeqee maim doob gai... betay Dino ki Laash per aye dil main rotaa hoon tu bhi roo,” the actor wrote.
