KOLKATA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 9th, 2026) Veteran Bollywood actor Rajesh Sharma is undergoing treatment at a Kolkata hospital after reportedly being bitten by a venomous insect during the shooting of an upcoming film starring South Indian actor Prabhas.
The incident reportedly took place at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad after filming had concluded for the day. Sharma was interacting with members of the production crew near a wooded area when he was bitten by an unidentified insect.
Believing the bite to be insignificant, the actor did not seek immediate medical attention. However, within a few hours, he began experiencing severe pain in his right leg.
Despite his worsening condition, Sharma boarded a flight to Kolkata, where he developed a high fever during the journey. Upon arrival, he was rushed to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria for emergency treatment.
According to doctors, the venom caused a serious infection that spread rapidly from his toes to his knee, leading to severe swelling and large blisters on his leg. Medical staff also confirmed that the actor has been experiencing breathing difficulties and remains under close observation.
A statement issued by Sharma's family and shared on social media by actor Sudipa Chatterjee confirmed the incident and requested prayers for his recovery.
Doctors have expressed concern that the infection could result in the formation of a blood clot in the affected leg. They warned that if such a clot reaches the lungs, it could pose a life-threatening risk.
Hospital officials said Sharma remains in serious condition and has not yet been declared out of danger, although specialists continue to monitor his health closely.
