Abrar-ul-Haq alleges Bollywood used ‘Nach Punjaban’ without permission

Singer Haq discusses issue of alleged copyright infringement related to one of his most famous tracks during a recent podcast appearance

LAHORE:(UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 18th, 2026) Renowned Pakistani singer Abrar-ul-Haq has claimed that Bollywood used his popular song “Nach Punjaban” without his permission, alleging that forged documents were prepared to support the unauthorized use of his work.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the singer discussed the issue of alleged copyright infringement related to one of his most famous tracks. The conversation took place on a Geo podcast hosted by Mubashir Hashmi, where various topics were discussed.

Abrar-ul-Haq said that he never sold the rights of “Nach Punjaban” to Bollywood and only became aware of the matter when questioned about its usage. He said he was given misleading explanations, including claims that a person named Haroon had provided permission, which he firmly rejected.

The singer maintained that the song remains his intellectual property and that no authorization was granted for its use. He further alleged that fake signatures and forged documents were prepared in his name to justify its usage.

Abrar-ul-Haq said similar practices had been reported by other artists as well, alleging that the music industry in Bollywood often misrepresents facts and manipulates content usage agreements.

Responding to a question regarding the use of the song in a film associated with filmmaker Karan Johar, he reiterated that no permission was taken from him for the project. He claimed that the film was marketed using the song without consent and described the act as unfair.

He added that he has initiated legal proceedings over the matter and is pursuing the case in court to seek justice for the alleged unauthorized use of his work.
