Russia to Deliver Another Mobile Microbiology Lab to Guinea Soon - Foreign Ministry

Russia will soon deliver another mobile microbiology lab to Guinea that will enable local scientists to carry out crucial laboratory tests in hard-to-reach areas or emergency zones, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) Russia will soon deliver another mobile microbiology lab to Guinea that will enable local scientists to carry out crucial laboratory tests in hard-to-reach areas or emergency zones, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"In the near future, [the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing] Rospotrebnadzor plans to donate a microbiology lab built into a Russian Gaz four-wheel drive truck to Guinea. This will enable the carrying out of autonomous laboratory tests of environmental samples and clinical material with the use of rapid diagnostic methods when working in areas of epidemic outbreaks; remote and hard-to-reach areas not covered by the stationary lab network; and emergency zones," Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

Zakharova also noted that the lab might serve as a post of sanitation and epidemiological control.

She recalled that Russia and Guinea had been cooperating in combating infections since 2014, when Moscow helped to address an Ebola outbreak in the African state.

"We believe that the delivery of the previously mentioned equipment will help to further strengthen the national health system of this African state and will become another Russian contribution to efforts to combat the spread of dangerous infectious diseases in West Africa as a whole," she added.

Russia already delivered mobile labs that are built into KamAZ trucks to Guinea back in 2015. Two years later, Rospotrebnadzor opened the Russian-Guinean Research Center for Epidemiology and Prevention of Infectious Diseases in the Guinean city of Kindia.
