PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th January, 2019) French police fired tear gas and rubber bullets as the first clashes of the day erupted with yellow vest protesters in Paris, a Sputnik correspondent said.Violence broke out after demonstrators hurled rocks and bottles at police near the Arc de Triomphe in central Paris during the ninth consecutive weekend of protests.
Several thousand marched through central Paris after gathering outside the Finance Ministry in the east, according to France Info. Fifty-nine protesters were reportedly detained.
Rallies took place in other French cities. An estimated 5,000 people demonstrated in Bourges in the country's center, according to local police, while between 800 and 1,000 took to the streets in the southern city of Nimes to protest high living costs.
