Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 8th January, 2019) Sarwar Bhatti, the producer of original version of Maula Jatt starring Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi, has won the original copyrights of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ against Bilal Lashari.

He had filed a suit before the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan’s (IPO) tribunal in 2017 seeking an injunctive order against the exhibition of Maula Jatt directed by Bilal Lashari. He claimed to possess the rights of the movie, including title and cinematography.
The film’s director Bilal Lashari, however, claimed that it was not a remake or sequel of the original version in any way.’
The IPO rejected the claim stating, “No any violation of the CRO 1962 has been committed by the Encyclomedia Lashari Films,” adding, “The cinematic work [in Bilal’s Maula Jatt] is actually very derivative work.”
However, in the latest development, Sarwar Bhatti’s counsel Hassaan Niazi has claimed that his client, the maker of original “Maula Jutt” has been given the certificate of ownership.
He said only Sarwar Bhatti has the right over the movie he himself made, adding that Bilal Lashari tried to take away his ‘property’ BY FORCE.
The lawyer said that the court has given restraining order against Bilal.
