Finnish President to Discuss Climate Change During Mid-January China Visit - Press Service

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto will head for an official visit to China on January 14-15 to discuss bilateral relations, pressing international issues and also global climate change, Niinisto's press service said in a statement on Monday.

HELSINKI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th January, 2019) Finnish President Sauli Niinisto will head for an official visit to China on January 14-15 to discuss bilateral relations, pressing international issues and also global climate change, Niinisto's press service said in a statement on Monday.

"President Niinisto will meet with the President of China Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday 14 January. In addition to bilateral relations between Finland and China, the presidents will discuss relations between great powers and other international topics. The programme will also include meetings with for example Chinese premier Li Keqiang and the Chairman of the National People's Congress Li Zhanshu as well as a high-level seminar on climate change," the statement read.

Niinisto, who will be accompanied by his spouse, will also attend the opening ceremony of the China-Finland Winter Sport Year.

Niinisto's delegation will include Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Anne-Mari Virolainen; Minister for European Affairs, Culture and Sport Sampo Terho; Helsinki Mayor Jan Vapaavuori; Lahti Mayor Pekka Timonen; and also Risto Siilasmaa, the chairman of the Committee for Innovative business Cooperation between the two countries.

The most recent Niinisto-Xi meeting was held in April 2017, when Xi came for an official visit to Finland. Niinisto last made an official visit to China in 2013.
