MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th December, 2018) The Russian Soyuz-5 medium-class launch vehicle will be renamed Irtysh, the head of the press service of Russia's space corporation Roscosmos, Vladimir Ustimenko, confirmed in an interview with Sputnik.
"We are entering a series of challenging tests of launch vehicles: the Angara, the medium-class Soyuz-5 Irtysh rocket and also the development of a super heavy-class rocket," Ustimenko said.
In November, two Russian space industry sources told Sputnik about the plans to rename Soyuz-5 after the Irtysh River.
Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said in 2016, when he was serving as Russian deputy prime minister, that the boosters for Russian carrier rockets would receive the Names of rivers in the European part of Russia, while the launch vehicles would be named after major rivers in Siberia and Russia's Far East.
The Irtysh River is a river in Russia, China, and Kazakhstan. It is the chief tributary of the Ob River.
