Six people have died in floods and mudslides caused by heavy rains in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar and another three people have sustained injuries, a spokesperson for local emergency services told Sputnik on Friday.

"According to updated data, six people have been killed as a result of heavy rains and mudslides in the Krasnodar region," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that that two of the injured had been hospitalized and one person was missing.

The press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry told Sputnik that the death of six people had been confirmed.

Almost 1,500 people and 330 vehicles have been deployed to help deal with the disaster. Meanwhile, almost 40 trains have been delayed and thousands of people have been left without power.

"A total of 36 passenger trains carrying more than 9,000 passengers have been delayed," a spokesperson for local emergency services told Sputnik.

The Russian Energy Ministry said that up to 11,100 people had been left without power in the Krasnodar Region because of the torrential rains and heavy winds.

According to Russian Railways company, a railway bridge across the Makopse River in the south of the region, which was damaged by the floods, was reopened, which allowed the company to partially resume traffic along the Black Sea coast, between the cities of Tuapse and Adler.

The company added that the repair works on the railway connecting Tuapse and the settlement of Krivenkovskoye, located deeper into the region, were still underway.

"The emergencies operation center of the [Russian Railways] OJSC RZD has set a task to resume traffic between [the region's capital] Krasnodar and Tuapse within the next 24 hours. Thus, the railway connection with [the city of] Sochi will be resumed," the company said in a statement published on its official website.

A major pipeline running from Tuapse to the town of Tikhoretsk, in the north of the region, has been damaged by a mudslide. The company operating the pipeline said in a statement that the incident did not pose any danger to local residents.

"According to preliminary estimates, around five cubic meters [176 cubic feet] of oil have gone out," Russia's Chernomortransneft oil company said in the statement published on its official website.

The press service of the Sochi administration told reporters that the authorities were dealing with the aftermath of the disaster across the city, the road traffic was being resumed and streets were being cleaned up.

On Wednesday, the Krasnodar Region's Tuapsinsky District and Apsheronsky District along with Sochi, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, were hit by torrential rains and subsequent floods and mudslides.

A state of emergency was declared in the affected areas. According to local authorities, heavy rains are expected to continue for at least the next 24 hours.
