The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has bolstered security at federal facilities around the country following the discovery of packages containing explosive devices in recent days, DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a press release on Thursday.

"The Department has heightened the security posture at federal facilities around the country and is actively communicating with our National Network of Fusion Centers," Nielsen said in the release.
The secretary added that DHS and the US Secret Service are working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as well as state and local law enforcement on the active investigation.
Nielsen condemned the incidents in the strongest way possible, calling them "cowardly acts."
US authorities discovered three more suspicious packages on Thursday, two of which were delivered to former Vice Pressident Joe Biden and one that was sent to actor Robert De Niro, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump.
The latest incidents bring the total number of suspicious packages intercepted this week to 10.
On Wednesday, packages containing explosives were found at the residences of former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Bombs were also sent to South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former Attorney General Eric Holder, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters and CNN's New York office. Another explosive device was found on Monday at the home of billionaire liberal donor George Soros.
None of the devices exploded or resulted in any physical damage or injuries.
