Polish Ruling Party Head Concerned About Ukraine's Rights Over Nord Stream 2 Construction

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the chairman of Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, expressed concern about how Ukraine's right may possibly be getting violated due to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

WARSAW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th September, 2018) Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the chairman of Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, expressed concern about how Ukraine's right may possibly be getting violated due to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

"Germany can and has every right to develop in a democratic way, based on whatever it considers to be acceptable. Of course, Russia has this right as well. But these two states cannot violate the rights of other peoples, and in this case we are talking about the rights of Ukraine, which have already been violated, and it may also be about other [countries' rights]," Kaczynski told Radio Szczecin, referencing Nord Stream 2.

The politician noted that he regarded the construction of the gas pipeline as an example of historically developed Russian-German cooperation.

The Nord Stream 2 project envisages the construction of two gas pipelines that will run from Russia, through the Baltic Sea and to a hub in Germany, bypassing Ukraine entirely. The project is a joint venture of Russian energy giant Gazprom, France's Engie, Austria's OMV AG, UK-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, and Germany's Uniper and Wintershall.

The project has been welcomed by some countries in Europe, such as Germany and Austria, and opposed by others, including Ukraine, which may suffer transit revenue drops if Nord Stream 2 becomes operational.
