Bathing in accumulated rainwater on streets, roads, open areas and other public places has been prohibited, says notification
LAHORE: (UrduPoint /Pakistan Point News-July 27th, 2026) The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province, banning swimming and unauthorised boating in rainwater and natural water bodies for 60 days to prevent loss of life during the ongoing monsoon season.
An official notification said that bathing in accumulated rainwater on streets, roads, open areas and other public places has been prohibited.
The order also imposes a complete ban on swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes, and distributaries, while unauthorised boating in these water bodies has also been prohibited.
The Punjab Home Department said the restrictions have been enforced in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the need to safeguard human lives during the monsoon.
Authorities noted that heavy rainfall has led to significant water accumulation in low-lying areas and open spaces, posing serious risks, particularly to children and young people. Water levels in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, and lakes across Punjab are also currently high, making swimming and boating extremely dangerous.
The restrictions have been imposed by the Punjab Home Secretary under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
The provincial administration and law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order, while officials have also been instructed to launch a widespread public awareness campaign about the restrictions.
