Lahore finalises grand celebrations for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day

LAHORE: (UrduPoint /Pakistan The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore has completed preparations for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day celebrations, with a series of events planned across the city, including fireworks, illuminations, flag-hoisting ceremonies, free sapling distribution, and cultural activities.

The arrangements were reviewed during a meeting chaired by PHA Managing Director Zahid Parvez Warraich, attended by senior officials of the authority.

Speaking at the meeting, Warraich directed all departments to ensure that the Independence Day celebrations are organised in a manner that reflects patriotism, national unity, and public service.

He announced that spectacular fireworks displays will be held at Liberty Chowk and Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14, while the main flag-hoisting ceremony will take place at Jilani Park.

The managing director said major government buildings, historical landmarks, roads, intersections, and green belts across Lahore will be decorated with national flags and illuminated with festive lighting to mark the national occasion.

As part of the celebrations, the PHA will also distribute free saplings through its eight horticulture zones to encourage tree plantation and promote environmental awareness.

In addition, the National History Museum at Greater Iqbal Park will host a variety of cultural, educational, and recreational programmes for families, children, and young people throughout the Independence Day festivities.

Warraich reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to making this year’s celebrations memorable and ensuring that Lahore reflects the true spirit of patriotism, unity, and national pride on August 14.
