English batter Harry Brook climbs top spot in Test batting rankings

International Cricket Council releases its latest player rankings for Test and One Day Internationals (ODIs), and introduces changes in batting, bowling and all-rounder categories  

DUBAI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 9th, 2025) The International cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday released its latest player rankings for Test and One Day Internationals (ODIs), and introduced changes in the batting, bowling and all-rounder categories.

Test Rankings

English batter Harry Brook has climbed to the No. 1 spot in Test batting rankings, surpassing teammate Joe Root, after his impressive 158-run innings in the Edgbaston Test. Brook now leads by 18 points, pushing Root to second place.

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill delivered outstanding performances with scores of 269 and 161 runs in the same Test, earning him a career-best sixth position. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson is ranked third, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal in fourth and Steve Smith in fifth.

England wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith made a remarkable entry into the top 10, moving up 16 places to reach 10th position, after unbeaten scores of 184 and 88 against India.

South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder scored an unbeaten 367 runs against Zimbabwe and helped his team declare at 626/5, narrowly missing the opportunity to break Brian Lara’s world record. His performance lifted him 12 spots to third in the Test all-rounder rankings, while India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead the category.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah retained his No. 1 spot among Test bowlers, despite being rested. Fellow Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj moved up six places to 22nd after a strong performance against England.

ODI rankings

Following Sri Lanka’s 2-1 series win over Bangladesh, several shifts occurred in the ODI rankings as well.

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka climbed two spots to sixth, while teammate Kusal Mendis jumped 10 places to secure the 10th position in the batting rankings.

In the bowling department, Wanindu Hasaranga claimed 9 wickets in three matches, propelling him 11 spots up to eighth place.
