GENEVA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th April, 2019) The French government should restore the Notre Dame cathedral as soon as possible, Olivier Ribadeau Dumas, the spokesman for the Bishops' Conference of France told Sputnik, on Monday.
"I hope this happens as soon as possible. This monument is a part of France's heritage. The state should take care of its reconstruction and the Catholic Church and all the French will help it," he said.
The bishop added the cause of the fire, which ripped through the building, was not clear but suggested it was linked to the renovation works that were being carried out there.
The fire broke out just a week before Catholics celebrate Easter. Dumas denied this was a sign of god, saying he did not believe in signs.
