MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) A new large oil refinery will be built in the Mexican state of Tabasco in three years with construction to cost some $6-8 billion, Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday."There are no delays in construction. Everything is good, and it will be built within three years, and will cost from $6 to 8 billion," Lopez Obrador said at a press conference.
The bidding process for the construction of refinery is set to be announced on March 18, according to the president.
Lopez Obrador has pledged earlier to expand oil refineries in the country as Mexico's largest refinery of Salina Cruz has been under-performing lately. Moreover, the new Mexican president aims to reduce country's reliance on the United States in the energy sector and increase gasoline production.
