MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) As many as four staff members of the Peruvian National Penitentiary Institute (NPI) have been taken hostage during a prison riot in the country's city of Tacna, the NPI said in a statement released via its Twitter blog on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the Challapalca prison. The prisoners got into a fight which resulted in the killing of one of the inmates and caused injuries to another one.
"The prison's security staff immediately arrived at [the prison's] unit and were taken hostage. At the moment four of them [held captive], they are all right," the statement said.
The Challapalca prison is currently being under control of the security services and police. The inmates have refused to release the hostages and demanded that a representative of the prosecutor's office arrive at the scene.
