PTI nominates Dr Arif Alvi for country's president-ship

Incumbent President Mamnoon Hussain will complete his tenure on September 8.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 18th August, 2018) The Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Dr Arif Alvi as presidential candidate.

This was confirmed by PTI sopkesperson Fawad Chaudhry who in a tweet on Saturday said, "PTI has nominated Dr Arif Alvi as its candidate for President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan #PTI"

Dr Arif Alvi was elected MNA from NA-247 Karachi by securing 90,907 votes.

Incumbent President Mamnoon Hussain will complete his tenure on September 8 while the Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Thursday that the presidential election will be held on September 4.

According to the schedule issued by the electoral body, nomination papers for the presidential polls can be filed with the presiding officers in Islamabad and the four provinces by 12pm on August 27.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted on August 29.

Candidature can be withdrawn by 12 noon on August 30. The list of validated candidates will be published the same day at 1pm.

Voting for the presidential election will be held in the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies from 10am to 4pm on September 4.

Earlier today, PTI chairman Imran Khan officially took oath as the 22nd prime minister of Pakistan.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in President House, Islamabad on Saturday. President Mamnoon Hussain administered oath to the newly elected prime minister.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by the heads of three armed forces, parliamentary leaders, local and foreign guests, including former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Imran Khan’s close friends.
