State of Emergency Declared in 2 Honduran Provinces Over Severe Drought - Reports

Honduran government has declared a state of emergency in two provinces in the country's south following a severe drought that has led to famine and death of livestock, media reported

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Honduran government has declared a state of emergency in two provinces in the country's south following a severe drought that has led to famine and death of livestock, media reported.

The Telesur broadcaster reported that the state of emergency was announced in the provinces of Valle and Choluteca on Wednesday, where 75 percent of bean crop along with 72 percent of corn had been ruined by the drought, according to the Honduran Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

President Juan Orlando Hernandez met with his cabinet on Wednesday, after which he declared a state of emergency, which is set to last until December 31, the broadcaster added.

The government also said that around 65,500 families were in need of emergency food aid across 34 municipalities.
