Among the deceased are Nelsy Milagros Cruz, the Governor of Montecristi Province, and former baseball player Octavio Dotel.
According to the British news outlet BBC, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning during a concert by popular singer Ruby Pérez, when hundreds of people were present inside the club. The roof suddenly collapsed and trapped many beneath the debris.
The officials reported that over 150 people have been injured while the rescue teams are working to retrieve those still trapped. The Director of the Emergency Operations Center stated that some individuals may still be alive, and rescue efforts are ongoing.
The Dominican president expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
