Nearly 60% Of Americans Unhappy With How US Democracy Functions - Poll

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st June, 2019) Almost 60 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the way US democracy functions, a PEW Research Center poll revealed on Friday.

"The 12 countries most dissatisfied with their democracy included four - Mexico, Greece, Brazil and Spain - where eight-in-ten or more were dissatisfied... and another five where six-in-ten or more expressed dissatisfaction: Tunisia, Italy, South Africa, Argentina and Nigeria," a press release accompanying the poll said. "The United States was close behind, with 58% expressing unhappiness with the way democracy is functioning."

Around 58 percent of Americans also described their country as one in which elected officials do not care about the people, the survey of 27 countries found.

In Russia, 49 percent said they were dissatisfied with their democracy compared with 44 percent who were satisfied, according to the release.

Indonesia, the Philippines and Sweden appeared happiest, with satisfaction rates of 65, 69 and 69 percent respectively, the release said.
