MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st June, 2019) Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced Friday an end of import ban on fish from Japan's nuclear disaster-affected Fukushima prefecture, Japanese media said.
Duterte made his decision public at a summit in Tokyo with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the NHK public broadcaster reported.
The ban was introduced after a meltdown at the quake-hit Fukushima Daiichi power plant in 2011 caused tonnes of radioactive water to seep into the ground and the Pacific.
Abe welcomed Philippines' decision to start importing Japanese sweetfish, sand lances, daces and salmon, saying they met all safety standards, and urged other countries to follow suit.
