Russian, Turkish Senior Military Officials Discuss Ceasefire In Syria's Idlib

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st June, 2019) Russia's chief of the general staff Valery Gerasimov and his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler, discussed ways of ending clashes in Syria's Idlib, in a phone call on Friday.

"The chief of the general staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, has discussed with his Turkish colleague, Army Gen. Yasar Guler, measures to cease fire in Idlib," the Russian ministry said.

The Idlib de-escalation zone was set up after a summit of Russia and Turkey in Sochi last fall. The northwestern Idlib area is home to around 30,000 militants, including foreign mercenaries, rebels from the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberation and militants from the Nusra Front terror group, which is banned in Russia.
