UN Chief Condemns Latest Attacks on UAE Ships, Saudi Pipelines - Spokesman

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the latest attacks on shipping vessels in the Persian Gulf and on Saudi pipelines and has called on all sides to exercise restraint, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press conference on Wednesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th May, 2019) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the latest attacks on shipping vessels in the Persian Gulf and on Saudi pipelines and has called on all sides to exercise restraint, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press conference on Wednesday.

"[Guterres] condemns the recent attacks on commercial vessels off the United Arab Emirates," Dujarric said. "He condemns the drone attack on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia for which the Houthis have claimed responsibility."

Guterres, who is currently visiting Fiji, also called on all actors in the Middle East region to exercise maximum restraint and avoid all incidents that could cause escalation, Dujarric said.

The United States has dispatched the its Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to the Persian Gulf amid reports that a task force of B-52 strategic bombers has also been sent to the region and President Donald Trump has warned Iran that it would be "a big mistake" to attack US troops.
