Chairman of Qatari Committee for Gaza Says to Meet Palestinian Leadership Very Soon

The chairman of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammed Emadi, said on Wednesday that he would meet with the Palestinian leadership in the coming days

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th May, 2019) The chairman of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammed Emadi, said on Wednesday that he would meet with the Palestinian leadership in the coming days.

"I will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh in Ramallah in the coming two days," Emadi said as quoted by Qatar News Agency.

He also stressed that neither Hamas nor Israel wanted the conflict to escalate as it would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe.

"If the recent escalation had lasted for a few hours more, the world would have witnessed a humanitarian catastrophe and the region would have plunged into a crisis with unpredictable consequences," Emadi said.

He stressed that Qatar respected all Palestinian political forces and appreciated their sacrifices.

"By means of financial support, the State of Qatar reaffirms its firm attitude aimed at supporting all factions and representatives of Palestinian society, especially in the Gaza Strip, in the face of humanitarian difficulties," Emadi stressed.

The Israeli-Palestine conflict has been ongoing for decades, and is rooted in the Israeli government refusal to recognize Palestine as an independent state in the territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Israel has imposed an over decade-long air, land and sea blockade on the Gaza Strip, justifying the decision by saying it needs to protect its citizens from terrorism.

Qatar provides Palestinians with financial support, especially those living in the disputed Gaza Strip. On May 7, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani ruled to allocate $480 million in aid to Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank after tensions between them and Tel Aviv escalated on May 4 when hundreds of rockets were fired toward Israel from the Palestinian enclave causing Israeli counter attack
