WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th May, 2019) Assistant US Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere Kimberly Breier plans to meet with a representative of Venezuela opposition leader Juan Guaido during a stop in Argentina, the Department of State said in a press release on Thursday."While in Buenos Aires, the Assistant Secretary will meet with interim President Guaido's appointed Ambassador to Argentina Elisa Trotta Gamus to reaffirm US support to the Venezuelan people and the interim government," the release said.
In Argentina, Breier will meet with senior government officials for talks on terrorism, transnational crime, and free trade, the release said.
In Colombia, Breier will speak at the Concordia Americas Summit of government officials and business leaders on human rights, democracy and US support for the people of Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba, "in their struggle against tyranny and repression," the release added
On January 23, Guaido declared himself interim president of Venezuela. The United States and 54 nations have recognized Guaido and have called on President Nicolas Maduro to step down.
Maduro has called Guaido a puppet of the United States and accused Washington of orchestrating a coup to force a change in government in Venezuela and claim the country's resources.
Russia, China, Turkey and numerous other countries recognize Maduro as the only legitimate president of Venezuela.
