QUITO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th March, 2019) Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador have agreed to hold joint operations against criminal groups with the United States, a communique on the results of a multilateral meeting read.

"To develop joint operations by the states' police forces in order to fight regional criminal structures," the document issued after the meeting between security ministers of the so-called North Triangle of Central America and US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, held in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa on Wednesday, read.

During the talks, the parties also agreed upon a memorandum on cooperation to establish a dialogue on security issues.

Washington has been supporting Latin American countries through the so-called Merida Initiative, a plan aimed at fighting drug trafficking and organized crime in the region.
