Russia Ready to Share Experience Hosting Sporting Events After World Cup Success - Lavrov

Russia stands ready to continue sharing its expertise in organizing international sporting events after successfully hosting the FIFA World Cup last year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) Russia stands ready to continue sharing its expertise in organizing international sporting events after successfully hosting the FIFA World Cup last year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday.

The remarks were made through a letter read out by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigoriy Karasin during the opening ceremony for an international art exhibition dubbed "Ball in Art."

"We are ready to continue sharing experience of successfully holding major sporting events of international importance," the letter read.

Lavrov highlighted the importance of the FIFA World Cup hosted by Russia last year.

"One can hardly overestimate the uniting role of football that contributes to bringing nations closer and promoting the universal principle of fair game. The World Cup held last summer in Russia has not only become a true celebration for hundreds of thousands of fans, but contributed to promoting the atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding around the world," the letter read.

The minister also praised the exhibition that would be displayed in different counties across the world, including Qatar that will host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Russia hosted its first FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The matches took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg and Sochi.
