HAIKOU: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 12nd, 2026) Pakistan made an impressive start to their campaign in the 2026 Asian Boys' Under-18 Volleyball Championship by defeating Kyrgyzstan in straight sets in their opening group match on Sunday.
The Green Shirts dominated the contest from the outset, securing a comprehensive 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-17 to earn their first win of the tournament.
Pakistan took complete control in the opening set through powerful serving, solid blocking and aggressive attacking play, allowing Kyrgyzstan little opportunity to settle before wrapping up the set 25-10.
The second set proved more competitive as Kyrgyzstan attempted a comeback, but Pakistan maintained its composure and discipline. Strong teamwork and consistent execution enabled the side to close out the set 25-19 and move within one set of victory.
The national team continued its dominance in the third set, producing an all-round performance in both attack and defence to seal a 25-17 win and complete a convincing straight-sets triumph.
Pakistan's victory was built on standout performances from Fahad Ali, Muhammad Anas, captain Muhammad Irfan, Asadullah and Faizanullah. Fahad Ali impressed with his attacking play, while Muhammad Anas contributed with effective blocking. Captain Muhammad Irfan led the team confidently, Asadullah excelled in defence, and Faizanullah played a key role with his consistent attacking efforts.
Head coach Kifayatullah welcomed the winning start, saying an opening victory in a major tournament always boosts the team's confidence. He praised the players for executing the game plan effectively, maintaining discipline and displaying confidence throughout the match.
However, the coach stressed that the team remained focused on its upcoming fixtures, describing Kazakhstan and Thailand as strong opponents.
Pakistan will face Kazakhstan in its second Group match on July 13 before taking on Thailand on July 14. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time.
