At Least 20 People Killed In Militant Attack In Northeastern Mali - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) At least 20 people have been killed in Mali's northeastern region of Menaka as a result of a militant attack on two settlements, local media reported.

The incident occurred on Tuesday not far from the border with Niger in the area, where the Tuareg-led Movement for the Salvation of Azawad (MSA) has several posts, the Nord sud Journal media outlet reported citing the MSA statement.

The list of the slain people includes several elderly persons and MSA members.

No terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The situation in Mali destabilized in 2012 when the Tuareg militants seized vast territories in the northern part of the country. The conflict escalated even more over the activities of Islamists, forces loyal to former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as well as French interference.
