Military Courts awarded death sentence to 310 terrorists so far: ISPR

At least 717 cases of accused terrorists were sent to them by the federal government

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 16th December, 2018) The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has issued an update on Military Courts to date.

Since the establishment of military courts, at least 717 cases of accused terrorists were sent to them by the Federal government, a press release issued by the ISPR said.

Of these 717 cases, 546 have been decided by the military courts. Out of these 546 decided cases, 310 terrorists were awarded death penalty while 234 were awarded rigorous imprisonment of varied duration ranging from life imprisonment to a minimum duration of five years. Two accused were also acquitted, the ISPR noted.

Out of 310 terrorists who were sentenced to death, 56 terrorists have been executed after completion of legal process beyond military courts decisions which included their appeal in superior civil courts and rejection of their mercy petition both by the army chief and the president.

Execution of death sentence of remaining 254 terrorists is pending completion of legal process in higher courts.

Those who have been awarded death penalty included masterminds, executers and abettors/facilitators of Army Public school (APS) Peshawar attack of December 16, 2014 (5 terrorist executed); Marriot Islamabad terrorist attack of September, 2008; Parade Lane terrorist attack of December, 2009; attack on ISI office Multan in December, 2009; terrorist attack on four SSG soldiers including two officers in April, 2009 (one terrorists executed); attack on ISI office Sukkur in November, 2010; Bannu Jail Break, April, 2012 (one terrorist executed); Mastung sectarian terrorist attack of April, 2012; killing of foreigners in Nanga Parbat in June, 2013; terrorist attack on civilian and security officials at Chalas in August, 2013; terrorist attack on SSP Chaudhary Aslam in January, 2014; Karachi Airport attack in June. 2014; terrorist attack on Ms Sabin Mehmood in April, 2015; terrorist attack in Safora Ghot Karachi in May, 2015; Bacha Khan University attack in January, 2016 and terrorist attack on Amjad Sabri in June, 2016.
